Summary

The Minister referred the question on belzutifan’s long-term cost assessment for von Hippel-Lindau disease to the HSE, responsible for reimbursement decisions.

416. Deputy John Clendennen asked the Minister for Health whether the pharmacoeconomic and reimbursement assessment of belzutifan for von Hippel Lindau disease takes account of the full long-term healthcare costs associated with the natural progression of the disease and repeated treatment of VHL-associated tumors including renal surgery, loss of renal function, chronic kidney disease, dialysis, renal transplantation and other VHL-related interventions; and the manner in which such potentially avoided or deferred costs are incorporated into the assessment. Comment on this

Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and medical devices; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
