Oifig IS na hÉireann (the AI Office of Ireland) was established on 31st July 2026 and is currently in its establishment phase. On 5th August Minister Peter Burke, T.D., appointed the seven members of the Board of Oifig IS na hÉireann (the AI Office of Ireland). These Board members bring extensive expertise across public administration, technology, governance, law, consumer protection and ethics and will inform the work of the AI office in the months and years ahead.

As part of its consultation strategy Oifig IS na hÉireann is actively engaging with stakeholders across Ireland and the EU to inform its priorities, challenges and opportunities. These engagements and its ongoing capacity building include analysing reports and developments to identify potential regulatory risks as more aspects of the EU AI Act comes into force over the next 2 years.

As part of the consultation work of the AI Office, engagement with groups from a wide range of sectors across Irish Society are ongoing, and this work continues to identify and engage with relevant stakeholders, including those in the arts and cultural sector. The rapid development of AI presents opportunities and challenges to these sectors, and maintaining open dialogue between the AI Office and stakeholders across Ireland is a key part of the work of an office that supports the development of ethical, human centred AI.
