The Minister of State said the nearest-school requirement currently applies, with limited exceptions for minority religions and Irish-medium education. Pilots reducing distance thresholds and removing that requirement are being evaluated, with any national expansion dependent on findings, resources and transport capacity.

I can confirm that the transfer of the lands at Magee Barracks, County Kildare, to the Minister was completed in 2024, conditional on post-closing obligations.
As part of the post-closing obligations, the Vendor is required to construct a section of the planned Distributor Road that will provide access from the public road to the proposed entrance of the permanent school facility.
