Summary

Concerns about severe overcrowding on the Oranmore–Galway service were referred to Iarnród Éireann as an operational matter.

190. Deputy Seán Kyne asked the Minister for Transport if he is aware of concerns of severe overcrowding on the Oranmore to Galway train part of the Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail Dublin Heuston to Galway InterCity line; whether he accepts this shows the need for additional capacity and if he would make correspondence with Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail to ensure additional carriages would be made available to ensure public safety. Seán Canney Minister of State at the Department of Transport Independent

As Minister of State, I have responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.

The query raised by the Deputy is an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann. I have, therefore, referred the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
