Foreign Birth Registration (FBR) applications are currently being processed within the turnaround time of 12 months from receipt of supporting documents. Applications that require further supporting documents will take longer to process.

By its nature, FBR is a detailed and complex process, often involving official documentation relating to three generations and issued by several jurisdictions. Such documents take considerable time to validate.

The Passport Service operates a transparent general policy of processing applications in order of receipt, except in cases of exceptional urgency, such as expectant parents, or stateless persons.  In order for such a request to be assessed, evidence must be submitted from the relevant authorities demonstrating that the child is not entitled to citizenship in either his country of birth or through any other citizenship to which he may have a claim through his parents.

With regard to the specific application about which the Deputy has enquired, the application was received by the FBR office on 23/07/2026.  A request for urgent processing was received on 24/07/2026 and a response issued to the applicant's parent outlining the documentary evidence necessary to process such request on 29/07/2026. The application will be processed upon receipt of the requested documentation.
