The promotion and protection of human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, are vital elements of Ireland’s foreign policy. Ireland consistently advocates for the protection of these rights internationally and encourages all States to uphold their obligations under international human rights law.

These principles guide all of our engagements with Germany.

Germany is a democratic constitutional state governed by the rule of law, where state authority is bound by the constitution, the law, and the justice system. Fundamental rights are protected through the German constitution as well as through Germany’s obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and other international instruments.
