38. Deputy James Geoghegan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance if he will confirm that the €12,000 tax free annual threshold for the new investment account, starting on July 1st, will be the nominal threshold for 2026, notwithstanding the fact that it is commencing halfway through 2026. Simon Harris Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Fine Gael

As announced in the Budget 2027 speech and as recently published in Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026, the maximum annual contribution permitted into the new investment account is €12,000.  The tax-free threshold is €50,000, meaning it is highly unlikely that a tax liability will arise in the first couple of years.  As providers and Revenue will require time to develop the appropriate IT systems and controls, the expected launch date for the account is 1 July 2027.  This also provided time to raise public awareness and understanding of the account.

The full annual contribution limit of €12,000 will be available for investment in 2027, notwithstanding, that accounts will only be available from July 2027.
