Hospital Appointments Status

Summary

The Minister referred the reported cancelled Temple Street surgery and requests for rescheduling or alternative capacity to the HSE, noting she cannot direct individual treatment.

200. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Health if she is aware of a case (details supplied) at CHI Temple Street, whose necessary surgical procedure has reportedly been cancelled despite advocacy from their treating consultant regarding the severity of their condition and pain; if she will seek an urgent update from CHI on the status of this case; the reason for the cancellation of the procedure; when it is expected to be rescheduled; and whether alternative capacity across the CHI network has been considered to facilitate the surgery at the earliest possible date. Under the Health Act 2004, the Health Service Executive (HSE) is required to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. The Minister for Health is prohibited from directing the HSE to provide a treatment or a personal service to any individual or to confer eligibility on any individual.

In relation to the particular query raised, as this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
