Water Pollution

Summary

The Minister redirected the inquiry into aluminium contamination at Goatenbridge to the housing minister and noted Inland Fisheries Ireland falls under the climate minister.

141. Deputy Mattie McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will instruct the inland fisheries to carry out an investigation in relation to the impact of high aluminium levels in the public water supply which was being treated at the Goatenbridge Water Treatment plant in South Tipperary; if he will investigate where the contaminated water was disposed of or discharged to; the water sources which may be impacted by exceedances in aluminium levels; if there has been any resulting fish kill that may have been caused by excessive levels of aluminium entering our rivers and water sources; and if he will carry out an investigation in the matter. Martin Heydon Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Fine Gael

As this question relates to the public water supply, this is a matter for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Inland Fisheries Ireland falls under the aegis of the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment.
