The AI in Education External Advisory Taskforce has been established to support the Department in developing a coherent national approach to the safe, responsible and effective use of AI across the school system at primary and post-primary level. Two AI Taskforce meetings have been held to date, 14 May and 21 September.

Meetings are attended by teacher unions, management bodies and other stakeholders such as teachers, parents and student representative groups and research bodies and other relevant agencies.  Its membership ensures a broad range of perspectives and expertise are brought to the discussion.

To support its work the Taskforce has established two working groups. The first is focused on assessment, including both summative and State-certified assessment, with the second Working Group focusing on teaching, learning and formative assessment.

The current phase of the taskforce is expected to operate over an initial 18-24 month period with outputs delivered on a rolling basis. The first quarterly report will be published on gov.ie in the coming weeks. The quarterly report publications will provide greater transparency regarding the Taskforce's work programme and priorities.

The taskforce will help ensure that the department’s response is informed by practical experience, ongoing work across the education system, and emerging national and international developments.
