The Blessington Community College capital project referred to by the Deputy has been devolved for delivery to Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB).

The project brief provides for the construction of a new three-storey post-primary school to accommodate 1,000 students, including six special educational needs (SEN) classrooms. The project also includes the demolition of the existing school buildings and the removal of the temporary prefabricated accommodation currently located on the site.

Planning permission was granted in June 2024.

In May 2026 Department officials issued approval to KWETB for this project to proceed to stage 3 of the architectural design process - Tender Stage. KWETB and the project Design Team are working through this process. All school building projects, as they progress through the pipeline, must undergo the necessary due diligence outlined in the Infrastructure Guidelines and Capital Works Management Framework.

Officials at the department continue to work closely with KWETB to provide practical advice and assistance to progress this project while KWETB as delivery body is engaging directly with the school authority to keep it fully informed of all developments

The current status of all projects is listed on a county-by-county basis at www.gov.ie. and this is updated on a regular basis to reflect project progress through the various stages of capital appraisal, site acquisition, design, tender, and construction.
