Jim O'Callaghan Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Fianna Fáil

I published the Report of the Garda Training Review Group on 13 October, along with the suite of research undertaken to support the Group’s deliberations.  I welcome the report and want to reiterate my thanks to the Chair and the members of the group for their time and commitment.

Templemore is, and remains, the primary Garda training facility in the State.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. This includes responsibility for all operational policing, for the allocation, deployment and management of resources and personnel available to him, and for the recruitment, training and continuing professional development of members of garda personnel.

It is not open to me as Minister to direct the Commissioner in these independent functions however I look forward to discussing the group’s recommendations with the Garda Commissioner.
