Joint Committee on Transport

Election of Leas-Chathaoirleach

Summary

Deputy Shane Moynihan was unanimously elected Leas-Chathaoirleach and pledged collaborative work on national urban and rural transport policy.

Michael Murphy An Cathaoirleach Fine Gael

I ask members to please note that the election for the position of Leas-Chathaoirleach may be carried out in private. Are members happy to continue in public session? That is agreed.

As agreed at the first meeting of the committee, one nomination for the position of Leas-Chathaoirleach was received before the deadline. It is for Deputy Shane Moynihan. As there is only one nomination, I will now put the question. Is it agreed that Deputy Shane Moynihan be elected as Leas-Chathaoirleach of the joint committee? Agreed. I declare Deputy Shane Moynihan elected as Leas-Chathaoirleach. I congratulate him and look forward to working with him. I give him the floor to say a few words.

Gabhaim buíochas leis an Chathaoirleach as ucht an deis seo a labhairt. I thank my colleagues for their confidence in me as Leas-Chathaoirleach. I look forward to working collaboratively with every member of the committee to advance what I hope is a national transport policy for both urban and rural. In that vein and spirit, I will not delay the meeting further. I look forward to beginning the work. I thank the members and look forward to working with them.

I thank the Leas-Chathaoirleach. We will go into private session to deal with a number of housekeeping matters.
