Seanad

STANDING ORDERS COMMITTEE.

CHAIRMAN

It is now our duty to consider the appointment of a Committee for drawing up the Standing Orders of this Seanad.

Maurice George Moore Colonel MAURICE MOORE Independent

I propose that a Committee to enquire into the Standing Orders for the Seanad should be appointed. I have made some enquiries and I find that Standing Orders have already been adopted for Dáil Eireann, and I think that it would be a good plan, as we must have some Standing Orders to carry us on, if we could accept for the moment the Standing Orders of Dáil Eireann so far as they may be applicable to the Seanad, until such time as the Committee which we could appoint now considers the matter and draws up suitable Standing Orders. I will not make any suggestion as to the names of the Committee for the moment until the motion has been seconded and somebody else makes suggestions.

I have pleasure in seconding the proposition.

CHAIRMAN

There is a suggestion that the Seanad should meanwhile adopt the Standing Orders which have been adopted by Dáil Eireann.

CHAIRMAN

The next question is the appointment of members on a Committee to prepare Standing Orders.

I would move that Lord Glenavy, Sir John Keane, Mr. Douglas, Mr. Kenny, Mr. Moran, Mr. Goodbody, Lord Granard, and Lord Dunraven be members of this Committee on Standing Orders. This Committee would, of course, have power to add to its numbers.

Comment on this

I beg to move the addition of the name of Mr. John T. O'Farrell.

Comment on this

It would be wise to put on two names instead of those of Lord Dunraven and Lord Granard. Lord Dunraven is not well, and Lord Granard has to go to America.

Comment on this

I beg to propose the name of Mrs. Wyse Power.

Comment on this

I suggest the addition of the name of Sir T. Esmonde to the Committee.

I am in the hands of the Seanad. It is now proposed that the Committee consist of Lord Glenavy, Sir J. Keane, Mr. Douglas, Mr. Moran, Mr. Kenny, Mr. Goodbody, Mr. O'Farrell, Mrs. Wyse-Power, and Sir T. Esmonde.

Comment on this

I second the proposition.
