Summary
Government Senators defend their role in the coalition and highlight reductions secured in proposed social protection and health cuts.
It will be difficult to follow that one.
Senator MacSharry and his colleagues may have forgotten how difficult it is to be in government and to try to govern responsibly, or perhaps they never knew. The Labour Party is one third of the Government, not the whole Government.

The balance of power is exactly that. In the budget, the Government has managed to reduce the cuts in social protection by €150 million, not an insubstantial sum, and by another €150 million in the health budget. What has happened is exceptionally difficult but that achievement is worth noting.
