Government mortgage response

Summary

Senators dispute whether the Government is acting urgently on mortgage arrears; Senator Coghlan cites bank engagement, declining long-term arrears and available support options.

There is no urgency evident. The Government has been in office for two years.

The engagement with the banks is taking place. Senator Daly Mark is always rushing his fences. People are engaging more and more. The Central Bank has told us that the number of mortgages in arrears for 90 days and more is declining. There is hope for people and there is engagement. There is a menu of options and, please God, it will succeed.

I also agree with Senator Mark Daly's expression of good wishes. I wish everyone a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
