Home-help pay recommendation

Summary

Senator O’Brien presses the Leader on the Government’s failure to implement a Labour Court recommendation on home-help pay; the Leader undertakes to raise it with the Health Minister.

I asked if the Leader had raised the issue of the Labour Court recommendation for home helps with the Minister for Health, Deputy James Reilly. He omitted to respond to that question.

I will certainly raise that matter. It dates back to 2008 when the former Government was in place. I am surprised the issue was not dealt with when it was in office

Comment on this

Perhaps I can clarify the issue. The decision was made in 2009.

The Department gave a commitment in 2012 and Ministers flatly refused to pay.

Will the Senator, please, resume his seat?

Comment on this

One cannot blame that Government.

Comment on this

The Senator does not need an answer then.

Comment on this

I was asking for the Leader's assistance. I will raise the issue again next week.

Comment on this

I was just asking the Leader a question.
