Independent EirGrid commission
Senator Pat O’Neill supports the proposed independent commission on the EirGrid project and says communities should accept its expert findings.
It has not been raised, but I would like to congratulate the Cabinet because it is important that an independent commission, to be headed by a retired judge and expert witnesses, is to be set up in regard to the EirGrid project. It will deal with issues about which communities are very concerned, namely, health, agriculture, tourism and property values. When the commission reports, however, it is very important that people accept the findings. It is to be an independent commission; therefore, I presume it will call in expert witnesses. It is important that both sides of this argument accept the findings of the commission.
Regarding the remarks made by Senator Diarmuid Wilson, it is outrageous that he would speak about a man who is not in this House, the Minister, Deputy Phil Hogan. He implied-----
