Ministerial engagement on Aer Lingus

Summary

The Leader says the Transport Minister may decide whom to meet, while Senator O’Brien maintains that the Minister is under pressure over the Aer Lingus issue.

Senator Darragh O'Brien spoke about whom the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Leo Varadkar, should and should not meet. That is a matter for the Minister who is quite capable of deciding with whom and when he should meet.

With regard to the Minister for Health, Deputy James Reilly, and universal health insurance, a matter raised by other Senators, I understand it will be the subject of a White Paper and that we will have a comprehensive discussion on it at the appropriate time. Again, I advise the Senator not to believe everything he reads in the newspapers.

Comment on this

I do not believe everything, but I think the Minister is under a little pressure.
