Narrow Water Bridge project
Senator D’Arcy welcomes expected North-South Ministerial Council support for the Narrow Water Bridge funding application and seeks a transport debate covering the bridge, the A5, and wider North-South links.
I welcome the statement made by the Taoiseach in Dundalk last week that he expects the June meeting of the North-South Ministerial Council to support and be involved in the next round of applications for funding for the Narrow Water Bridge project. This breaks the impasse where support from the Northern Executive was not forthcoming. I have spoken to a number of people in that regard since and they fully expect that the North-South Ministerial Council will indeed do that and that the funding application can be made in 2015 through the Special EU Programmes Body, SEUPB.
I agree with Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú that it would be timely to have a debate on the North in this House, but we could talk until the cows come home in that there is that much to talk about, and, by the way, it does not make us Sinn Féin to be talking about the North.

That is nonsense. I am surprised at Senator Jim D'Arcy saying that.

The Senator said Labhrás would be joining up very shortly or something like that, or hinted at it.

The Sunningdale Agreement was an earlier Good Friday Agreement and that was brought in by Mr. Liam Cosgrave.

Yes. I would like to start the ball rolling on that issue.
I ask for a debate with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Leo Varadkar, in attendance to discuss not only Narrow Water Bridge project but the A5 and that he outline North-South transport issues which we could then debate.
