Aviation pensions debate
The Leader accepts an amendment allowing the Transport Minister to make statements on cuts to the Irish airlines superannuation scheme, while procedural interruptions delay his response.
I think we had about half of the Members of the House contribute to the Order of Business today. This was only right, given the important issues raised by many of them.
Senator Darragh O'Brien referred to the plight of pensioners. An amendment to the Order of Business has been proposed. I also propose an amendment that the statements on Horizon 2020 conclude at 6 p.m., that the Minister of State be called on to reply not later than 5.50 p.m. and that the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Paschal O'Donoghue, come into the House for statements on the Irish airlines superannuation scheme, as requested by Senator Daragh O'Brien, from 6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. I presume this amendment will be accepted.
I am surprised that Senator Darragh O'Brien did not refer to the protests, a matter raised by most other Members. Last week he asked why Garda resources were being wasted. The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government was attending a function and the Senator questioned the need-----
