Surveillance and interrogation practices
Senator Daly asks the Leader to arrange a debate on alleged communications monitoring, Government contracts with implicated companies and the European Court ruling concerning interrogation practices.
I ask the Leader to organise a debate, to bring in the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and to ask him why there is no outrage from or protest by the Government. The ambassador is not even being brought in to explain why they are listening.

As a policy, every piece of communication from this island is being monitored.

The Senator does not even know what he is talking about.

Worse than that, the Government is still giving contracts to the companies-----

Will the Senator produce the proof?

It is incredible that there is deafening silence. I hope, by the time we get out of this Chamber, the Government has the will and bravery, because it is cowardice so far, to take the case of the hooded men back to the European courts because this is the issue. It is not about what happened nearly 40 years ago.

It is about the fact that the European Court ruling is now being used to promote and allow for enhanced interrogation techniques - it is actually torture - around the world.
