Homelessness debate decision

Summary

The Leader confirms that a homelessness debate will take place the following day and rejects the proposed Order of Business amendments amid heated interruptions.

I have no intention of becoming involved in that type of discussion. A debate on homelessness will take place tomorrow. I realise it is very difficult for Members opposite to accept the facts.

Comment on this

The Leader is not giving the facts. He is the one who is becoming involved in politics.

The Leader must be allowed to respond, without interruption.

Comment on this

The Leader is misleading the House. He should not be telling lies.

Comment on this

Shouting and roaring will get the Senator nowhere with me.

Comment on this

There is no point in telling lies.

Senator James Heffernan brought a human dimension to the issue of homelessness. I am sure he will make a useful contribution to the debate tomorrow. Senator Diarmuid Wilson made the very valid point that some people who were homeless would not accept shelter. I note, too, the comments made by Senator John Crown on this issue.

I do not propose to accept the amendments proposed to the Order of Business.
