Rape crisis funding and prosecutions

Summary

Senator Keane seeks a debate with the responsible authorities on rape-crisis funding, services and the low number of prosecutions and convictions.

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre's report was launched today. Last week when funding was withdrawn from Rape Crisis Network Ireland, I asked about the matter.

I want to include in the debate the fact that 293 cases were reported to Rape Crisis Network Ireland, of which 104 went to the Garda. Charges are pending in five cases, seven cases were dropped, only four went to trial and there were only three convictions. What we want to include-----
