Abortion and the Eighth Amendment

Summary

Senator Walsh seeks a debate on repealing the Eighth Amendment and argues that abortion raises fundamental human-rights and right-to-life questions, prompting objections from Senator O’Keeffe.

As I did yesterday, I seek a debate on the abortion issue. I agree with Senator Susan O'Keeffe who sought a debate on the repeal of the eight amendment and call on the Leader to arrange same. There is an onus on those who are proposing the repeal of the eighth amendment to talk about the procedures to be used to kill a baby because that is what abortion is about.

Please, Senator Walsh.

It is not just about somebody sanguine.

Comment on this

It is a constitutional matter.

Comment on this

As usual, the Senator degrades the debate.

Comment on this

It is also a fundamental human rights issue. I refer to the right to life.

Will the Senator please resume his seat?

Comment on this

The right to life is fundamental, as Senator Susan O'Keeffe knows. I would like her to outline her position on the issue, as well as on the issue of gendercide.
