Targeting of public representatives

Summary

Senator Daly supported concerns about abuse of Members and other public representatives on social media and again noted Ann Lovett's story as part of Ireland's exclusionary past.

I support the comments of Senator Flynn on the ongoing campaign against many Members of this House, the other House and other public representatives, particularly with regard to people coming from different backgrounds and communities being targeted.

Social media is the wild west of public comment with people hiding behind it and being able to say things that they would not be able to get away with in other media. It is something that we have to address. I also echo the comments of Senator Keogan about Ann Lovett. On this day 39 years ago, she died in a country that did not embrace all its citizens and treat them equally. People had to hide from society.

As regards the post office network, hopefully that legislation will pass as soon as possible to assist the 600 plus post offices that badly need it. Go raibh maith agaibh.
