Summary

Senator Collins objected that the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Bill would not get enough time. A point of order followed on abstentions, and the Cathaoirleach explained that Standing Orders do not currently provide for them but the committee is examining the issue.

On a point of order, I would like it to be recorded that I abstained from voting in the division.

Mark Daly An Cathaoirleach Fianna Fáil

For the benefit of Members, there is no abstention provision in our Standing Orders at the moment. However, the Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Oversight is looking at the issue of allowing Members who are present to abstain, as happens in the Dáil. I will revert to Members on that at a later date.
