Aurivo and Dale Farm talks

Summary

Senator Duffy paid tribute to Mary White and raised proposed merger talks between Aurivo and Dale Farm, seeking an agriculture debate while respecting the process.

I share my condolences on the passing of former Senator Mary White with her family and loved ones.

I am monitoring with interest the proposed talks about a merger between Aurivo and Dale Farm, which is based in Northern Ireland. Aurivo is a brilliant company owned by over 10,000 farmers. They contribute a huge amount to each of the communities where they are based and where the production is based. I would welcome a discussion with the Minister for agriculture on it. Without trying to interfere in a process that will be democratic and no doubt constructive and maybe make sense for both parties, I would like to make sure, in the interests of the 10,000 farmers who are part of the Aurivo ownership, that in the event of challenges the sector may face into the future, whether that is something like we discussed yesterday with bluetongue or different scares that might threaten the industry, an incorporation of Aurivo outside of the jurisdiction of the Republic and outside of the European Union will not have a negative impact on potential supports for farmers. I am sure this will be discussed in any of these ongoing talks. Next month, there will be conversations and meetings on this but we need to have everything answered and considered for farmers before any decisions are made to make sure the livelihoods and farmers in my home county of Mayo and right across Ireland are protected in any potential merger. I would, therefore, welcome an update from the Minister on this and clarification, in particular, for supports for farmers into the future if the ownership is incorporated outside of this jurisdiction.
