Clogher water supply

Summary

Senator Boyle raises chronic low pressure and outages in the Clogher, Leghowney and Copany area, arguing the reservoir and system need urgent upgrades.

I wish to raise an issue concerning Irish Water on behalf of Councillor Michael Boyle and the people living in the Clogher, Leghowney and Copany area in County Donegal. The reservoir there was built in the 1970s to service around 80 houses. There are now 600 houses in the area using the reservoir. Residents often have endless trouble because of low pressure or outages. There have been no upgrades to the reservoir, the plant or the system. People are without water for long periods of time and householders are now using streams at the back of their houses to top up their water. Irish Water staff on the ground acknowledge the problem, are more than helpful and keep a bad system going as best they can.

We need a new reservoir, more capacity to supply a larger number of houses and a fully upgraded system. People have been calling for this for years but it has fallen on deaf ears so I am asking the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage and Irish Water to urgently sort out the problem and put a plan in place for the people of Clogher, Leghowney and Copany so they can have a good water system. It is 2026 and it is the least the people of Donegal deserve.
