Visitors from Ballinalee

Summary

The Chair welcomed Deputy Carrigy, students from Scoil Samhthann and other guests, with lighthearted remarks about Ballinalee and homework.

Mark Daly An Cathaoirleach Fianna Fáil

Before I call the next speaker, I welcome back to the Seanad on a temporary basis Deputy Carrigy, a former Seanadóir, students from Scoil Samhthann, Ballinalee, County Longford, and Ms McCormack and Ms Larkin. Ballinalee is famous for the blacksmith of Ballinalee. A good friend of mine, Padraig Sheridan, is a grandnephew of his. We had many an argument over the Civil War, Padraig and I. We had many pints as we discussed it.

Our guests are from Ballinalee. I spoke earlier to Deputy Carrigy. When you visit Seanad Éireann as a school, there is no homework for the rest of the week. The students can thank the Deputy and the teachers can blame him, if they wish.
