Address to Seanad Éireann by Members of the European Parliament: Motion
Seanad Éireann approved a motion allowing five Midlands-North-West MEPs to attend and address the House on 27 May 2026, with set speaking times and question arrangements.
I move:
That, in accordance with Standing Order 63(1) and the approval of the Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Oversight, Seanad Éireann agrees that, in respect of the European Parliament Midlands-North-West Constituency, Ms Nina Carberry MEP, Mr. Barry Cowen MEP, Mr. Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan MEP, Mr. Ciaran Mullooly MEP, and Ms Maria Walsh MEP, may attend and be heard in Seanad Éireann on Wednesday, 27th May, 2026, and that the following arrangements shall apply:
The proceedings shall commence at 2 p.m., shall not exceed two and a half hours, and shall consist of—
(a) a speech of welcome by the Cathaoirleach;
(b) an opening address by each MEP which shall not exceed six minutes in each case;
(c) a contribution not exceeding five minutes by a Spokesperson from each Group;
(d) a single response not exceeding five minutes by each MEP to the combined issues raised by the Group Spokespersons;
(e) questions from all other Senators in accordance with the sequence set out in the Schedule to this resolution, which shall not exceed two minutes in each case;
(f) a reply and concluding statement of not less than five minutes by each MEP;
(g) a speech of thanks by the Leader of the House; and
(h) concluding remarks by the Leas Chathaoirleach;
and the members of the European Parliament may take seats on the floor of the Seanad Chamber.
