Irish Water service problems
Senator Boyle reports persistent Irish Water problems across Donegal, despite praising local staff, and seeks action on repeated community complaints.
I fully support the comments of my colleague Senator Duffy on local improvement schemes. Every local councillor in Donegal would feel the same; it is all about getting more money for lanes, which are important to the people of Donegal, as we know. Another issue I want to take up today is Irish Water. Through the summer my office was busy, as were those of the councillors of every party all over Donegal, dealing with problems with Irish Water, particularly in Inishowen, Burnfoot, Teelin, Copany, Clogher and Leghowney to name but a few. The staff on the ground are absolutely excellent when we get them. We can ring them and they are out doing the job. The infrastructure we have in Donegal is ancient and really needs to be prioritised. I ask to get a Minister in here to have a debate on Irish Water and its priorities moving forward. Where does Donegal stand on the priority list? What is the list of works that need to be done for Donegal? It is crucial and people deserve water. We are so lucky we have the Wild Atlantic Way now and a lot of tourists. It is great that they are coming in the summer time but they do not have water to flush toilets. It is an urgent issue that we really need to address.
