Official Secrets Reform Bill 2000
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would narrow official-secrets offences to genuinely sensitive information, such as national security, Northern Ireland, crime prevention and personal safety, rather than covering all government information. It would also allow courts to treat disclosure as justified in the public interest, and relax many other secrecy rules, making it easier to expose wrongdoing or inform the public.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Official Secrets Act, 1963, to reform the law regarding official secrecy generally and to provide for related matters
