The Parliamentary Secretary said no scientific evidence supports claims that barnacles have anti-cancer properties and invited evidence. He said initiating research was a matter for the Medical Research Council; Mr. MacSharry asked him to approach the Council.

Despite the most extensive inquiries I have not been able to ascertain that there has been any scientific investigation which would support the implication in the Deputy's question. If any evidence supporting such a claim can be furnished I will be glad to have it considered.
