Grant inspection delays and staffing

Summary

O’Toole said inspection delays were causing problems and asked whether staffing would increase. The Minister said extra staff had been recruited and more were being recruited, but declined to provide numbers without a written question.

: The fact is that the delay in having inspections carried out is causing havoc and has the Minister any intention of increasing the inspection staff commensurate with the so-called increase in applications?

Comment on this

: I have already done so and the Deputy exaggerates when he says delay is causing havoc. The delay is quite short. Admittedly there were delays initially because of the big number of applications.

Comment on this

: There still are delays.

Comment on this

: More staff had to be recruited and at the moment more inspectors are being recruited. The existing staff are working overtime.

Comment on this

: What extra staff has been recruited in the inspectorate?

Comment on this

: If the Deputy will put down a question I will spell it out for him.

Jim Mitchell Mr. Mitchell Fine Gael
