asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of Holstein cattle imported in 1983; if he is satisfied that they are not disease risks; and if he has associated leptospirosis disease with these cattle importations.

The answer is none. The only importation of Holsteins to date was from Canada in 1974 and leptospirosis disease was not associated with that importation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of foreign breeds of cattle imported into Ireland during 1983 and the names of the breeds.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose to circulate it in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Note: Imports of cattle from Northern Ireland are not included.
