Waste Disposal Oversight
The Minister said local authorities manage and monitor waste disposal, while his Department provides guidance but has no direct monitoring role.
asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on the arrangements in his Department for the monitoring and control of the disposal of waste products.
Comment on this
The supervision and management of waste disposal operations in each area is the responsibility of the county council or county borough corporation concerned and decisions on disposal methods are a matter for these authorities. While my Department have issued guidelines to local authorities on selection and design aspects of disposal sites, they are not directly involved in the monitoring and control of waste disposal generally.
