International conditions and interest rates
De Rossa asked whether Ireland could operate independently of international developments. Reynolds said it could not, and argued that the Estimates might help stabilise interest rates as rates rose abroad; the Chair then moved on despite Cullen seeking another supplementary.
Is the Minister suggesting that this country can operate independent of what is happening internationally?
Comment on this
I said that the publication of the Book of Estimates should help to stabilise interest rates while they are tending to go up abroad. When they go up abroad, we cannot stand in isolation. That is what I am saying.
