Taoiseach’s visit to the Gaeltacht Department

Summary

Higgins asks when the Taoiseach will first visit the Department of the Gaeltacht. The Taoiseach says the Department comes to him and that visiting the Gaeltacht itself is more important; he says he does so regularly, followed by brief banter.

Jim Higgins Mr. J. Higgins Fine Gael

Os rud é nár leag an Taoiseach fiú amháin a chos taobh istigh de tháirseach Roinn na Gaeltachta le linn a réime deireannaí mar Aire na Gaeltachta, cathain atá sé ar aigne aige a chéad chuairt a thabhairt don Roinn um an dtaca seo? An bhfuil sé ag súil leis?

De ghnáth tagann an Roinn chugamsa.

I will translate for the Minister. When does the Taoiseach propose making his first visit to the Department of the Gaeltacht in view of the fact that he did not visit them during his last term?

Sin ceist eile.

If the Deputy wishes to revert to the vernacular, I will do so also. What I said was that when necessary the Department came to see me and that that was satisfactory from both our points of view. The Deputy would agree that it is probably more important to visit the Gaeltacht itself, rather than the Department of the Gaeltacht, and that I do regularly.

The Taoiseach should start with the Department.

I am kind of half resident in the Gaeltacht.

What half?

Comment on this

Maybe the better half.

You get a bird's eye view of it now and again.
