Cruelty to pregnant horse
Jennifer Whitmore described a severely abused pregnant horse that later had to be put to sleep and asked for action. The Taoiseach condemned the cruelty and urged witnesses to assist Gardaí and the authorities.
Last week, a pregnant horse was literally driven into the ground on the N4. The horse was taking part, or was being made take part, in sulky races on Dollymount Strand. She was with foal. She collapsed on the road and was forced up to continue on that road. She collapsed again and this time, she could not get up. Her abusers kicked her and tried to drag her up but she was unable to get up. My Lovely Horse Rescue went out and rescued this horse and brought her to UCD but, unfortunately, she had to be put to sleep. This is pure animal cruelty plain and simple, so can the Taoiseach tell me what the Government is going to do to stop these horrific things from happening to animals in broad daylight?

That was absolutely horrific and I condemn very strongly what happened. Obviously, An Garda Síochána will have to follow up and the relevant authorities will have to pursue those guilty of this horrific crime. I appeal to people who witnessed this to give their evidence to the authorities, so that prosecution can follow.
