Deputy Gary Gannon asked the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality the number of separated children seeking international protection being accommodated by or in the care of Tusla; the number of those who are accommodated under section five of the Child Care Act 1991; the number that have an allocated social worker; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As advised by Tusla on 3 July, the number of separated children seeking international protection being accommodated by or in the care of Tusla is 484. The number of those who are accommodated under Section Five of the Child Care Act 1991 is 327. The number that have an allocated social worker is 253.
As part of Budget 2026, Tusla’s Separated Children Seeking International Protection (SCSIP) services received an additional €51 million. This additional allocation brings the total funding allocated for SCSIP services in 2026 as part of Budget 2026 to €153 million.
Tusla makes every effort to ensure that unaccompanied minors seeking International Protection are safeguarded and receive appropriate care and protection.
