Digital for Care: A Digital Health Framework for Ireland 2024–2030 identifies the HSE Health App as a key component of Ireland’s digital health transformation and an important step towards providing people with secure digital access to their health information and health services.
The HSE Health App was launched in February 2025 and continues to be enhanced through a programme of regular releases. Over 209,000 people are now registered users (July 2026), demonstrating strong public engagement with digital health services and secure access to personal health information. The App provides the digital access point through which people can increasingly view and interact with their health information as additional digital health services are brought online.
The App currently provides users with access to a range of digital health services and information, including:
• hospital and screen services (breastcheck) appointments;
• information on day-case and inpatient waiting lists;
• GP referrals;
• vaccination records;
• digital versions of the Medical Card, GP Visit Card and EHIC;
• medication (lists of reimbursed meds and costs) and allergy information;
• smoking cessation supports through the Quit programme;
• pregnancy information and supports; and
• access to a range of health information and services.
The HSE has continued to expand the App through a programme of major releases during 2026. Three significant releases have already been delivered this year, introducing additional health information, expanded appointment and referral functionality, waiting list information and new health and well-being supports. A fourth major release is planned for November 2026 that will continue the expansion of patient-facing digital services and health information available through the App.
Further enhancements planned include greater access to personal health information, additional hospital and community services, expanded appointment functionality, access to diagnostic information and test results, and enhanced supports for patients living with chronic conditions.
The HSE Health App forms the first component of Ireland’s wider approach to digital health records, alongside the National Shared Care Record and the National Electronic Health Record Programme. The Government remains committed to the continued development of the App as part of the implementation of Digital for Care and the delivery of more accessible, connected and patient-centred healthcare services.
