174. Deputy Jennifer Whitmore asked the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment the reason Ireland has no climate policies recorded in the OECD IFCMA Climate Policy Dashboard country-level database; the engagement his Department has had with the OECD regarding the omission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The aim of the OECD’s Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA), and the database it is building, is to optimise the global impact of emissions reduction efforts around the world through better data and information sharing, evidence based mutual learning and inclusive multilateral dialogue. In early 2025, my Department was asked by the Department of Finance to coordinate Ireland’s validation process of all instruments in the database. This process is a complex one as it requires coordination across several Government Departments and agencies and at the outset the IFCMA secretariat were still developing the database structure.
Throughout the process there were a number of teething issues with the platform which led to work being lost and officials have been working with the IFCMA secretariat over the past months to ensure the database and its systems are now more robust and fit for purpose. Also, In the middle of 2026 the number of instruments for validation increased significantly.
It is my intention that Ireland will have all instruments validated by the end of 2026, but we need to be certain that all publicly available information is accurate and true before being published as part of this important initiative.
