There is no record in my diary of a meeting to discuss a new Garda station at Northern Cross on Sunday, 19 July 2026.
The Government is committed to building stronger, safer communities, and strengthening An Garda Síochána is at the core of that. This is reflected in the unprecedented allocation of over €2.74 billion to An Garda Síochána in Budget 2026.
This funding allows for the continued recruitment of Garda personnel and provides the equipment, technology, facilities and fleet that Gardaí require to support their vital role of keeping communities safe.
It is also extremely important that Gardaí across the country are stationed in modern workplaces that are up to standard. This is why following the review of the National Development Plan, I secured a landmark €2.18 billion for a Justice Investment Plan up to 2030. Of this, €911 million has been dedicated to the completion of Garda estate projects.
This funding will support the completion of new Garda stations in Portlaoise, Newcastle West and Bailieborough in 2026 and early 2027, as well as work on new stations in Macroom, Clonmel, Castletroy, and Carndonagh. It will also provide €35 million for a rolling programme of minor refurbishment works in Garda stations across the country.
As part of the overall investment, I also specifically secured funding for the development of a new divisional HQ and campus facilities for the Dublin Metropolitan Region North.
The funding is in place for these works to commence in the second half of the 2026 – 2030 Garda Capital Plan, while efforts in the first half are focused on completing the several large-scale projects already in progress.
The requirements for DMR North have been under review by An Garda Síochána, the OPW and my Department for some time now. This work will be progressed in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines, as required by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, which set out the value for money guidelines for capital appraisal. In line with this, work is commencing on the Strategic Assessment and Preliminary Business Case phase, which will set out the rationale, benefits, options and expected costs and timelines for the project.
The Government is committed to ensuring that An Garda Síochána has the resources it needs to combat and prevent crime and keep us safe. The projects on the capital plan will provide modern work environments for Garda members and staff, supporting improved service delivery to local communities.
