Summary

Guidelines on memorialising former Mother and Baby and County Home sites are being finalised after consultation and await approval before publication and circulation.

358. Deputy Gary Gannon asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage the reason guidelines for local authorities on local memorialisation of former Mother and Baby Home and County Home sites have not yet been published, noting that the relevant working group's report and guidelines were stated to be at an advanced drafting stage in April 2025; and to provide a definitive timetable for their completion and publication. James Browne Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Fianna Fáil

I propose to take Questions Nos. 358 and 359 together.

The Report of the Working Group on Actions Involving Local Authorities as identified in the Action Plan for Survivors and Former Residents of Mother and Baby and County Home Institutions is at its final stage of preparation following consultation with stakeholders. Once approved, my Department will finalise the process for publication of the Report and its guidelines for circulation to local authorities.
