Seanad

SEANAD IN COMMITTEE. - BUSINESS OF THE SEANAD.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Before we pass to the next amendment, I would like the Seanad to consider what the position is with regard to to-morrow if we dispose of this Bill this evening. Items Nos. 4, 5 and 6 on the Order Paper are purely formal and will appear first on the Order Paper to-morrow, but there are one or two other matters that will take a little time. I was wondering if the Seanad would meet to-morrow a little earlier, as Senators from the country would be anxious to get away. Perhaps we might meet at 11 o'clock.

It is very difficult for some of us to get here at 11 o'clock, and I do not think I could attend.

There is nothing very important on to-morrow.

I have to attend a Government Commission to-morrow at 10.30, and I have a motion on the Order Paper for to-morrow which I regard as of great importance.

Would 12 o'clock suit you?

Yes.

I understand there are certain urgent matters which the Government want disposed of before Easter, and it would be necessary for the Seanad to sit again next week. By sitting next week we should be able to adjourn until after Easter. It will be necessary for us to sit on Wednesday, and perhaps on Thursday of next week.

As we have to meet earlier to-morrow, would it be any harm to ask those who have amendments down to contribute to the general dispatch of business by withdrawing them?

Comment on this
AN CATHAOIRLEACH

It would be no harm.

Comment on this

As regards the sitting next week, as Senators from the country have come up now, perhaps it would be more convenient if we sat earlier in the week, and not have those Senators going home and coming back again.

Will the Summer Time Bill be ready on Monday?

Comment on this

I scarcely think it will.

It is down for Final Reading on Tuesday.

Then it will not be ready for us until Wednesday. I think, therefore, we had better meet on Wednesday. I am sure the Seanad would rather meet next week and dispose of the outstanding business and then have the recess over Easter.
